With much excitement, Ms Nicky Weir and four of our students just returned from the ECE Conference organised by The Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS) on 26th and 27th of October, 2018 at Shekou International School, Shenzhen. It is our honour to be the only college from which students were invited.
Under the theme of ‘Play. Discover. Learn: The Power of Language’, our students actively participated in the many workshops and keynotes available, sharing their growing body of knowledge and skills, while learning from practitioners and experts.
Nicky Weir, Centre Director of the Yew Chung Early Childhood Development Centre, was invited to share her knowledge and experience of ‘Play’ in an international context, with the conference participants. Nicky’s main keynote, “Raising the Profile of Play – the Journey of Change”, discussed the advocacy role of educators, and early childhood settings at large, in promoting the accurate and valued understanding of ‘play’ as children’s quality learning. Nicky also presented two workshops: “What is My Role in Play-based learning” and “Making Visible ‘Play, Discovery, Learning and Language” – both workshops were designed for participants to actively engage in thinking and discourse around their knowledge, skills and practices promoting play-based pedagogy.
