On 26 November, a group of YCCECE students excitingly welcomed new global friends from the University of Wollongong (UoW), Australia.
Mr Anthony Dang (Head of Student Affairs), Ms Nicky Weir (Centre Director of Yew Chung Early Childhood Development Centre), Prof. Sultana T. Poposka (Vice-President) and seven YCCECE BEdECE Year 3 students had the honour of hosting a series of activities which our students and their new overseas friends enjoyed. The UoW students experienced local food flavours and sight-seeing of typical Hong Kong tourist highlights such as the Chi Lin Nunnery, Nan Lian Garden, and Wong Tai Sin Temple.
Another highlight was a visit to Yew Chung International School (Early Childhood Education) where the UoW students enjoyed being able to observe how ‘learn through play’ is practiced with hands-on opportunities. They also had a fruitful dialogue with the Co-principals, Ms Kate McAlister and Ms Gladys Au.
In addition to the exchanges at the student level, the YCCECE teaching team and Dr Cathrine Neilsen-Hewett, Academic Director of The Early Years of UOW, had a very meaningful exchange during a professional development workshop titled ‘Fostering Effective Early Learning (FEEL)’ led by Dr Neilsen-Hewett.
After two memorable weeks, the UoW and YCCECE students and lecturers bid farewell on 4 December 2018 with plans to meet again at UoW when our students visit in the Fall Semester of 2019.
