Position Summary:

The post-holder is expected to carry out the following duties
1. Teach English courses to students who are studying our DECS, Higher Diploma and BEd Degree programs, 18 hours per week per term. The English proficiency of our students varies from native, near-native to ESL/EFL level.
2. Provide personal tutoring to the assigned students
3. Collaborate with colleagues in coordinating and conducting the detailed work of designing, developing, operating, reviewing, updating and bringing improvements to the Program
4. Provide extra support of English to the students and the College
5. Undertake other general duties assigned to teaching staff

Expected start date: August 2020 or As soon as possible

Requirements:

Candidates should refer to following minimum requirements for the rank applied.

Senior Lecturer Rank
1. A relevant Doctoral degree in in TESL, TESOL, Applied Linguistics with a TESL emphasis or a TESL certificate, Linguistics with a TESL emphasis or a TESL certificate, English with a TESL emphasis or a TESL certificate or Education with a TESL emphasis or a TESL certificate or comparable professional qualifications
2. At least 5 years’ full-time experiences of teaching non-native speakers of English in Higher Education
3. Experiences of program design and development of English in Higher Education or comparable industrial experience
4. Substantial programme or relevant academic management experience; and
5. Active participation in scholarly and research activities.

Lecturer Rank
1. A Master’s degree in TESL, TESOL, Applied Linguistics with a TESL emphasis or a TESL certificate, Linguistics with a TESL emphasis or a TESL certificate, English with a TESL emphasis or a TESL certificate or Education with a TESL emphasis or a TESL certificate or comparable professional qualifications
2. At least 3 years’ full-time experiences of teaching non-native speakers of English in Higher Education
3. Experiences of programme design and development of English in Higher Education or comparable industrial experience
4. Active participation in scholarly activities.

Assistant Lecturer Rank
1. A Master’s degree in TESL, TESOL, Applied Linguistics with a TESL emphasis or a TESL certificate, Linguistics with a TESL emphasis or a TESL certificate, English with a TESL emphasis or a TESL certificate or Education with a TESL emphasis or a TESL certificate or comparable professional qualifications
2. Preferably some experiences of teaching non-native speakers of English in Higher Education or comparable industrial experience.

Salary and Fringe Benefits:

Appointment will be made on fixed-term contracts commencing August 2020 (or as soon as possible afterwards) for full-time positions, renewable subject to performance and mutual agreement.

Remuneration is competitive and will be based on qualifications and relevant experience. The College offers group medical insurance, staff development support, research grant, annual leave and sick leave, and Mandatory Provident Fund to eligible appointee(s).

Important notes to Applicants:

Appointees will be required to undergo a teacher registration process with the Education Bureau. In order to complete this process, the following are required:
1. Applicants with overseas qualifications will have to go through qualification assessment to be conducted by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation and Vocational Qualifications. The costs for the qualification assessment will be borne by the appointees.
2. Appointees will have to undergo a medical examination. Reimbursement of costs subject to a ceiling is applicable.
3. Appointees will have to undergo a Sexual Conviction Record Check before appointment can be confirmed. The cost for the check will be reimbursable.
