The ceremony began with the President’s Speech. The President, Professor Allan Yuen, encouraged the graduates, “You possess knowledge and skills that enable you to empower others to touch and nurture children’s lives, and to be an extraordinary force for positive change in society. Throughout your studies, our College have sought to nurture in each of you a firm belief in Yew Chung Values, also a firm belief in the importance of leading with passion, serving with commitment.”
Speaking after the President’s Address, the Guest of Honour, Professor Rhee Won Young, Professor Emeritus of Chung-Ang University, and Member of YCCECE Board of Governors, delivered her commencement address. She shared her experience on how to become a “Good Early Childhood Teacher”, and encouraged the graduates, “please do not doubt whether you can be a good teacher or not. Through this graduation ceremony, you have proved that “you have got a talent” to become a good teacher for young children. Just think seriously and set a goal about what kind of Good Early Childhood Teacher you want to be, and then pursue the goal.”
During the ceremony, Dr. Betty Chan Po-king, Chairperson of Board of Governors of YCCECE conferred the College’s first Honorary Fellowship upon Dr. Gary Lee Morrison. The Honorary Fellowship is a newly established award and the highest honour of the College, publicly recognizing distinguished individuals for their remarkable contributions to YCCECE and the community. Its very first Honorary Fellowship was awarded to Dr. Morrison in recognition of his unique contributions as the Founding Chairman of the College Governing Council and Supervisor of Yew Chung Community College (YCCC), and playing an instrumental role since 2013 in the development of the new degree-awarding College, YCCECE.
Dr. Morrison concluded his speech saying that “With a grateful heart I thank the Board of Governors for selecting me to be the first recipient of the YCCECE Honorary Fellowship, which I accept on behalf of the entire team of educators and professionals with whom I worked closely for nearly two decades. This could not have been achieved without a team knitted together by a unity of vision, unity of purpose, and unity of mission with common objectives.”
The Ceremony closed with Miss Lila Ramjali, graduate representative shared her experience at YCCECE and expressed her gratitude on teachers’ and fellows’ support and encouragement. She also thanked the College for preparing her to be a professional kindergarten teacher. She ended her speech wishing every student a bright future.
