Overview

The Educational Observation for Infants and Toddlers Certificate Programme focuses on observing infant and toddlers’ holistic learning and development, highlighting the physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and language domains. Through understanding the role of the observer, including the skills and disposition required to observe infants and toddlers in the context of free play and exploration, students will be able to link theory to practice, making their work well informed.

Intended learning outcomes

  1. Apply the use of appropriate observation tools to observe infants and toddlers in the areas of cognitive functioning, communication development, physical development, language development, social-emotional functioning and adaptive behaviour, and to identify any exceptional behaviour or problems or delays in growth patterns.
  2. Apply authentic assessments and communicate and collaborate with families to support the learning and development of infants and toddlers with special educational needs, including infants and toddlers with delayed development and non-Chinese speaking (NCS) infants and toddlers.

Summer classes
Jul & Aug 2021: 3 weeks, from 9:30am to 4:30pm

Regular classes
Sep onwards: 4 months, from 6:30pm to 9:30pm

Tuition Fee

$4,950 (collected on an equal monthly installments basis)

Summer classes
Jul & Aug 2021: 3 weeks
Tuition fee to be settled by one installment, HK$4,950, the installment has to be settled upon submitting the application.

Regular classes
Sep onwards: 4 months
Tuition fee to be settled by four installments, 1st/2nd/3rd installment each HK$1,238 and 4th installment HK$1236, the first installment has to be settled upon submitting the application.

Awards

Professional Certificate in Infant and Toddler Education

Students who have completed all three constituent courses and fulfilled relevant course and attendance requirements will be awarded with a Professional Certificate in Infant and Toddler Education which is equivalent to a HKQF Level 4 qualification.

(I) Foundation of Education and Care for Infants and Toddlers
(II) Educational Observation for Infants and Toddlers
(III) Supporting the Development and Learning of Children aged 0-3 years with Special Educational Needs

Certificate Award at QF Level 4 

A Certificate Award of Completion will be awarded to students who obtained a passing grade and fulfilled the attendance requirement in individual courses. The award is equivalent to a HKQF Level 4 qualification.

Application procedures

  1. Please prepare the following documents:
    a. Completed application form (download application form here), and
    b. Cheque or proof of payment for tuition fee, and
    c. Copies of academic certificates.
    d. Submit an English or Chinese personal statement according to the language of the programme applied.

  2. Application will be processed only when all required documents and tuition fee are received.
  3. Applicants may be required to attend an interview in connection with the application if needed.

Continuing Education Fund (CEF)

This course has been included in the list of reimbursable courses under Continuing Education Fund, eligible students can apply for tuition subsidies from the government.
