Ten students and faculty from Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education (YCCECE) participated in a service-learning trip to Bangkok, Thailand, from 9 to 16 June this year, sponsored by the Wofoo Leaders' Network. Organised by the Student Development Office, the program integrated Early Childhood Education (ECE) practice with community service, allowing students to support children of incarcerated parents and train local caregivers in partnership with the House of Blessing.
To express gratitude, a donor appreciation dinner was held in 13 October, during which students shared how the experience had deepened their commitment to social impact. Inspired by the trip, they are now applying their learning through local initiatives, continuing to serve vulnerable communities and promote inclusive education in Hong Kong.
“Before this experience, I lacked confidence in public speaking, but the trip helped me grow significantly in that area. As an aspiring early childhood educator, I learned the importance of inclusivity and understanding diverse needs.”
--Eliza Rai, Higher Diploma In Early Childhood Education or HDECE
“Applying our training in a real-world setting was incredibly fulfilling, and I would welcome future opportunities to serve and learn.”
--Aster Leung, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education or BEdECE
“We prepared interactive sessions on early childhood education for children and caregivers, and it was rewarding to see them engage and learn. Caring for the babies was a highlight, reinforcing the importance of compassion in our field. This journey taught me about teamwork, resilience, and the power of love in education.”
--Amina Ali, Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education Graduate or HDECE Graduate
“This trip was a turning point in my journey as an early childhood educator. One impactful moment was helping a caregiver understand her child’s emotional needs through a creative storytelling activity we developed. It showed how our preparation and education at YCCECE could make a real difference. ”
--Felix Chan, Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education or HDECE
