      The PGDE(ECE) programme aims to produce knowledgeable and skillful ECE practitioners and to nurture passionate, visionary, innovative and dedicated early childhood professionals who can advocate for the well-being of young children and their families and bring about improvements in the field. Furthermore, the Programme curriculum covers contemporary ECE issues with emphasis on equipping students with reflective skills and a good understanding of the need for continuous professional development and life-long learning capability.

    • Programme Objectives

      Upon successful completion of the Programme, students will be able to achieve the following:

      1. Analyse child development holistically in various contexts and support optimal child learning;
      2. Demonstrate skills in formulating and implementing strategies to support children’s learning and development, with emphasis on understanding children’s individual and group motivation and behaviour in diverse learning environments;
      3. Compare and undertake a variety of formal and informal assessment strategies to support, evaluate and ensure the continuous all-round development of young children;
      4. Value the complex characteristics of young children and their families and communities, advocate for respectful, reciprocal relationships that support and empower families, and involve all families in their children’s development and learning;
      5. Critically evaluate the importance of, and be able to apply, appropriate strategies to contribute, both independently and collegially, to the quality of their schools to the benefit of children, parents, community and colleagues; and
      6. Identify and conduct themselves as reflective members of the ECE profession and adhere closely to the ethical guidelines and other professional standards, especially the HKSAR education system structure, relating to early childhood practice.
    • Graduate Pathways

      Graduates of the PGDE(ECE) Programme can:

      1. Be eligible to be registered as Kindergarten Teachers with the Education Bureau (EDB); and
      2. Be eligible to be registered as Child Care Workers, Child Care Supervisors, and qualified as Special Child Care Workers with the Social Welfare Department (SWD).
    • Education Pathways

      • Graduates can pursue further study at Master’s and/or Doctoral Degree programmes in ECE and related disciplines as the most direct extension and upgrading in their own area of specialism.
      • With 3 years teaching experience in kindergarten, graduates are also qualified to enrol in the Certification Course for Kindergarten Principals approved by the EDB.

    • Note:

      Following the official approval from the Education Bureau and Social Welfare Department, the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Early Childhood Education) Programme is recognised as fulfilling the requirements for registration as Kindergarten Teachers, Child Care Workers and Child Care Supervisors. The College is now in the process of acquiring the Special Child Care Workers licence of the Social Welfare Department.
