The 2-Year Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education (HDECE) is a pre-service training programme aiming to nurture quality early childhood professionals who will gain all 4 ECE qualifications in Hong Kong, eligible to work as Registered Kindergarten Teachers with the Education Bureau (EDB), Child Care Workers/Supervisors and Special Child Care Workers with the Social Welfare Department (SWD).
The HDECE programme also prepares students for YCCECE’s Bachelor Degree programme and any ECE related Bachelor Degree programmes at overseas universities.
HDECE students will have practicum opportunities in selected premium international and local kindergartens, including exclusive placement at Yew Chung International School (kindergartens).
Students will have the opportunities to be taught by world class visiting scholars and to attend international conferences to broaden their global perspectives in ECE.
The 100% English Medium of Instruction environment provides ample opportunities for students to practice and raise their English proficiency which gives them a competitive edge for further study or employment.
With effect from 1 September 2021, YCCECE will become the first private self-financing institution with Programme Area Accreditation (PAA) status for the programme area “Early Childhood Education & Early Childhood Education Services” at Higher Diploma level (i.e. QF Level 4) and below for a period up to 31 August 2026 academic year. The PAA status entails YCCECE to self-quality assure its QF Level 4 programmes (and below) without the need for external accreditation.
The College reserves the right to cancel any programme, revise programme content or change the class schedule(s) / venue(s) etc if circumstances so warrant.
Level 2 in five subjects in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education, including Chinese Language and English Language
Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students
Applicants who have (i) learned Chinese Language for less than 6 years while receiving primary and secondary education or (ii) learned Chinese Language for 6 years or more in schools but have been taught an adapted and simpler Chinese Language curriculum not normally applicable to the majority of students in local schools, can use the following qualifications to replace HKDSE Chinese Language Level 2 to meet the entrance requirement for Chinese Language:
∙ HKDSE Applied Learning Chinese “Attained” or above
∙ GCE A-Level/AS-Level Chinese Grade E or above
∙ GCSE/IGCSE/GCE O-Level Chinese Grade C or above
HKALE
Attained Grade E or above in 1 AL subject or 2 AS-Level subjects and 5 subjects at Grade E or above in HKCEE including English Language and Chinese Language
International Baccalaureate (IB)
2 IB subjects at Level 4 or above and a Level 3 in English Language
General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level / International A-Level
∙ Grade E or above in 1 AL subject or 2 AS subjects; and
∙ Grade E in English Language at A/AS-Level or Grade C in English Language for GCE O Level/GCSE/IGCSE Level/GCSE/IGCCSE
QF Level 3 Qualification
Obtained an accredited Foundation Diploma/Diploma Yi Jin/Pre-Associate Degree or equivalent QF Level 3 qualification
Other Qualifications
Other equivalent qualifications including non-local qualifications obtained in or outside Hong Kong
Applicants who cannot meet the stipulated minimum admission requirements and mature applicants of age 21 or above by 1 September of the year of admission may be considered for admission based on individual merits.
