    • The Hong Kong study tour, organized by Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education (YCCECE), was tailor-made for students. It offered an immersive learning experience integrating theory, practice, and cultural insights!

As early childhood education continues to advance toward internationalization and specialization, translating theoretical knowledge into vibrant teaching practice has become a key concern for many students. This study tour directly addressed this need through a meticulously designed itinerary, allowing participants not only to "hear" but also to "see," not only to "learn" but also to "experience."

      Participant Feedback: Gains Exceeded Expectations

      • "During this study tour, we learned through play and played while learning. We ate well, had fun, and learned a great deal too."
      • "Though it was tiring, looking back, all the memories are filled with interesting stories."
      • "Thanks to the Yew Chung teachers for arranging such a full and enriching schedule—the rewards far exceeded our expectations!"
      • "Even as an introvert, I formed significant friendships."

      Philosophy First, Embracing Diversity

The welcome ceremony for the study tour was hosted by Kevin Han, Deputy Director of the Mainland Development Office at YCCECE. Cathy Li, Vice Principal, encouraged the students in her address: “In an international environment like Hong Kong, I hope you can embrace diversity, maintain an open mind, observe diligently, think actively, and deeply understand the underlying logic of different cultures and social operations. Engage in communication, inspire one another, and progress together through collaboration.”

Stepping into the Campus, Understanding Yew Chung

Dr. Qing Liu, Assistant Dean of Studies and Assistant Professor, led the study tour group on a campus visit to learn about the layout and resource allocation of the campus. She then introduced the history, curriculum, and educational philosophy of YCCECE.

Ms. Ivy Li, Practicum Manager, focused on policies and practices, analyzing the current state of early childhood education in Hong Kong and pathways for teacher development, helping everyone build a clear vision for their careers.

Dr. Serena Liu, Assistant Professor, unveiled the 12 Values of the Yew Chung Approach to ECE. Participants not only gained a deep understanding of the theoretical essence but also personally experienced the educational charm of "learning through play" by handling characteristic teaching tools. This interactive learning session greatly inspired creativity in early childhood education.

Into the Field, Witnessing Education in Action

The students became "observers," entering the early childhood and primary sections of Yew Chung International School. There, they listened to insights from Ms. Terence Lo, Chinese Co-Principal, ECE, and Hui Li, a primary school teacher, who shared their distinctive curriculum design concepts, practices for transitioning between early childhood and primary education, and home-school collaboration.

Through observation and dialogue, what they gained went beyond understanding Yew Chung's "emergent curriculum" and "0-8 continuous development framework"—it sparked a renewed reflection on the essence of education.

Into the Classroom: Real Cross-Cultural Encounters

On the morning of the fourth day, Ms. Payal, Lecturer, delivered an engaging and highly interactive session on the theme of "Family Engagement." Ms. Penny Pan, Lecturer, provided on-site translation, ensuring smooth communication and effective understanding.

Later, in the classroom of Esther Chong, Lecturer and Programme Manager (Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education), students teamed up with peers from around the world at the college. They engaged in brainstorming on educational topics within a cross-cultural context, truly broadening their perspectives and expanding their horizons through the exchange of knowledge and ideas.

      Exploring PPDS: Reimagining Teaching Creativity

The study tour group delved into the PPDS. Guided by the teaching team, they not only understood the educational philosophy hidden in every aspect of the environment design but also actively participated in two distinctive STEM gaming activities—experiencing the charm of Yew Chung's "learning through play" in a fun and challenging setting.

We hope every educator who steps in here can bring today's inspiration and insights back to their own classrooms, transforming theory into genuine teaching creativity.

      Immersion in Culture and Art

Across diverse settings spanning education, art, and history, the study tour group embarked on a journey of cultural cognition and aesthetic appreciation.

At the Madam Tsang Chor-hang Heritage Museum of the Kowloon Tong Campus, the curator provided a detailed exhibition and explanation, outlining the development and spiritual heritage of Yew Chung Education Foundation.

At the Hong Kong Museum of Art, everyone strolled among precious artworks and enjoyed panoramic views of the modern city and natural scenery from the Victoria Harbour viewing platform.

At the Hong Kong Palace Museum, Dr. Hui Ching guided students in exploring the theme "A Day in the Forbidden City." Through vivid interpretations of the history and aesthetics behind cultural relics, she expanded everyone's cultural and artistic horizons.

Successful Conclusion of the Study Tour

The study tour concluded with the presentation of completion certificates and blessings from Dr. Crystal Zheng, Dean of Studies and Assistant Professor.

But the end is just the beginning of real practice.

This was more than a study tour—it was a reshaping of educational ideals. What you take away is not just a certificate or happy memories, but also broadened perspectives and professional growth gained through immersion, interaction, and reflection. May every educator transform the thoughts and inspirations from here into genuine light within their classrooms.
