    • On 17 May 2024, the Mengxue Institute of the Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education (YCCECE) is once again delighting audiences with its captivating presentation of classic Chinese culture. Following the overwhelming success of the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms—Fire at the Red Cliffs" performance at the YC Gala Day in March 2023, the Mengxue Institute returned on 17 May 2024, with an even more immersive and interactive showcase of traditional Chinese arts.

Building upon the foundation laid last year, this year's Mengxue drama performance incorporated new elements that further highlighted the depth and breadth of China's rich cultural heritage. In addition to the elaborate stage production, the event featured the enchanting art of Chinese shadow puppetry, allowing the audience to engage directly with the performers and learn about the intricate techniques behind this centuries-old theatrical form.

"Our goal with this performance is to not only entertain, but to truly immerse the audience in the wonders of traditional Chinese culture," said Dr. Hui Ching, Director of the Mengxue Institute. "By integrating different artistic disciplines, we hope to capture the holistic and humanistic essence of Mengxue education, which emphasizes the integration of emotions, daily experiences, and cultural elements."

Indeed, the performance was a true feast for the senses, seamlessly blending captivating storytelling, vibrant visuals, and interactive elements. The audience was transported back in time, witnessing the dramatic events of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" unfold before their eyes, accompanied by the mesmerizing movements of the shadow puppets and the rich, evocative music.

"What made this year's Mengxue drama so special was the opportunity to not only watch the performance, but to actively participate in it," remarked one attendee. "The interaction with the shadow puppetry artists really brought the experience to life and deepened my understanding of this unique art form."

The Mengxue Institute's commitment to preserving and sharing China's cultural legacy was evident throughout the event. By seamlessly integrating classical elements with contemporary presentation techniques, the institute has found a way to make traditional arts accessible and engaging for modern audiences.

As Dr. Hui Ching eloquently stated in the previous year, "Chinese culture, no matter how important and powerful it might be, is only one of our many sources of energy." The Mengxue Institute's ongoing efforts to reinterpret and reinvigorate this heritage serve as a testament to the enduring relevance and adaptability of China's rich cultural traditions.
