    • Professor Kerry Lee welcomes the Academic Year 2025/26

      Dear YCCECE Community,

As we embark on the 2025/26 academic year, I am filled with gratitude for the unwavering support of our students, staff, and valued partners. Together, we have navigated challenges, celebrated milestones, and laid the foundation for an even more dynamic future in early childhood education.

This past year marked a period of remarkable growth for Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education. We proudly launched our Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Early Childhood Education) (PGDE-ECE) and Master of Education (MEd) programmes, further solidifying our leadership in the field. Notably, our PGDE-ECE programme remains the only PGDE programme in Hong Kong to award four professional licences, including the qualification for licensed Special Child Care Workers.

In our commitment to accessibility and inclusivity, we introduced Chinese-stream courses, ensuring our programmes cater to a broader range of learners. This year, our MEd intake will expand to include both Chinese and English streams, making high-quality education more accessible than ever.

Looking ahead, we are excited to share that doctoral programmes are in development, alongside new undergraduate offerings in child development, psychology, and related disciplines. These initiatives reflect our dedication to addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in early childhood education and mental health—fields that have never been more critical.

Our global recruitment efforts continue to thrive, enriching our campus with diverse perspectives. Last year, we welcomed nearly 300 students from 13 countries and regions. This vibrant multicultural environment fosters deep learning and cross-cultural exchange, preparing our graduates to excel in an interconnected world.

Beyond the classroom, our students have engaged in transformative academic exchanges across mainland China, Thailand, and beyond, gaining firsthand insights into early childhood education practices worldwide. Additionally, our new scholarship programmes for ASEAN and Belt & Road students—covering tuition, accommodation, and living expenses, underscore our mission to empower the next generation of educators.

None of this would be possible without the generosity of our supporters. Thanks to their contributions, we have established our first major endowment fund and secured multi-year donations dedicated to future scholarships—an investment in excellence that will resonate for years to come.

As we begin the new term on 1 August, I am delighted to welcome Ms. Cathy Li as our new Vice President (Administration) and Professor Kaye Chon to our Board of Governors. I’m also excited to see our returning and new students, as well as to welcome the pioneering cohort of our postgraduate programmes.

I also wish to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude for the donation of Dr. Frank Lam, our immediate past Vice President (Administration), towards the provision of exercise equipment for our College. His support not only fosters physical wellness but also creates a vibrant and caring campus environment.

Together, we will continue to innovate, inspire, and lead in early childhood education and development—advancing knowledge, nurturing talent, and making a lasting impact in Hong Kong and beyond.

Here’s to a year of discovery, achievement, and shared success.

      Warm regards,

      Professor Kerry Lee
President and Chair Professor of Child Development
