The Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education (YCCECE) hosted a professional development workshop titled “Filipino Teachers’ Flourishing and Use of AI in Classroom Assessment” on 18 March 2026. The hybrid event featured two research presentations by scholars from the Philippine Normal University (PNU), offering insights into the work-related well-being of Filipino teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic and their use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in assessment practices.
The first session, led by Prof. Merimee T. Siena, presented a completed study that examines the work-related factors influencing Filipino teachers’ experience of flourishing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Employing a convergent parallel mixed-methods design, the study explored how psychological job stress and teachers’ attitudes toward online teaching relate to their well-being. The findings highlighted how teachers navigated professional demands while maintaining psychological well-being amid crisis conditions.
The second presentation, delivered by Prof. Adonis P. David, shared an ongoing study that investigates Filipino teachers’ adoption of generative AI (GenAI) in classroom assessment across multiple contexts, including preservice, in-service and higher education. Guided by the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), the study aims to describe the factors shaping teachers’ attitude, intention to use, and actual use of GenAI tools in assessment practices.
The workshop underscored the importance of teacher wellness programmes, as well as the need to establish ethical guidelines alongside practical AI training. It also reflected YCCECE’s commitment to fostering evidence-informed professional dialogue across educational contexts.
